United Utilities aims to create a great place to work for our more than 4,500 employees through:
- a collective commitment to achieving our business goals
- a focus on health and safety
- the chance to make a real difference to the communities in which they live and work by just doing their day job
The vision, strategy and company goals set the golden thread from which are linked team and personal objectives, so employees recognise the contribution they make, no matter what their role.
Through monthly performance updates, team briefings and team talks, employees get to hear and discuss how their business area and the whole company are doing.
We are proud of our employees and the vital role they play in supplying life’s essentials for our customers. Through delivering today, the company is also building for tomorrow to secure water supplies across the North West for generations to come.
There is a strong focus on talent and skills development as a key pillar of the business strategy. Developing a flexible, skilled and efficient workforce is critical to the company’s ability to deliver improved services to customers.
In support of creating a work-life balance, the company policies on maternity, paternity, adoption, personal and special leave go beyond our requisite legal obligations as an employer.
We run a flexible benefits scheme which is open to everyone, allowing employees to choose the benefits that best suit their personal needs via a salary sacrifice agreement.
Most employees are members of the company pension schemes, which include a defined benefit scheme (now closed to new members) and a defined contribution scheme.
United Utilities and its trade unions work together under an employee relations framework to ensure positive working relationships. Throughout 2009, we used this framework to positive effect to consult our employees around the pay review and changes to the defined benefit pension scheme.
